Culturally-relevant curriculum

Our research-based model is strengthened by a rich history of changemakers within the freedom schools movement. We push beyond traditional classrooms by creating uplifting, culturally-enriching curriculum that is elevated by our charter from the Children’s Defense Fund.

Reduce summer reading loss

Classes with 10 scholars each are led by trained Servant Leader Interns who help children cultivate positive attitudes toward learning. Classes include three hours of reading per day and other academic enrichment activities to prevent summer learning loss and support improved academic achievement.

Building confident changemakers

We believe that our scholars can make a meaningful difference for themselves and their communities. By immersing them in a philosophy of bravery and introducing transformative ideas in a fun, interactive learning environment we empower each child to believe this too.

Filling gaps in education with perseverance.

Gulf Coast Freedom Schools consistently produce the highest reading gains among the top eight summer learning programs. Unlike other programs, we are torchbearers for our rich history and uplift our youth through the power of literacy.
